The Movie!
Many books are made into movies -- some successfully and others not so successfully. Which is the case with this one?
Several thing changed from the book to the movie. The movie could not incorporate The Weems Weekly, for example. And the ending was rather changed (understatement!). So, what do you think? Which is better? To cast your vote, take a moment to skip over to the Guest Book and write your comments.

Shooting the film
The movie was shot on location in Georgia over an eight week period. The cafe scenes were shot in Juliette, Georgia and the Treadgoode house was shot in Senoia, Georgia. The director travelled to Atlanta one year prior to the beginning of production and began scouting for locations. Working closely with the Georgia Film Commisson, they chose Juliette as the site of Whistle Stop. "The town was ideal" the movie's director Jon Avnet recalls. "There were existing structures that, though quite rundown took on new like after we constructed new facades. There was even a train track that ran alongside the cafe." You can actually go there to the site of the filming yourself, to either the cafe or the house, and visit if you'd like! The Whistle Stop Cafe is even open for business, with each summer bringing in buses full of tourists for lunch. Oh! And, you gottatake a moment to look at this site for actual photos of these locations. There's quite a list of photos, so take your time and browse through each one! Now -- the cafe we just read about is the one where the filming took place. Here is the cafe that Fannie Flagg based the book on (her aunt used to be the owner) -- The Irondale Cafe in Irondale, AL. And, you guessed it, you can visit there, too, and they have even published a cookbook, if you are so inclined!
