Fannie Flagg: actress, screenwriter, director, comedienne and author
Fannie Flagg is an outstanding actress, screenwriter, director, comedienne,
and author of the New York Times best selling Fried Green Tomatoes at the
Whistle Stop Cafe. Her highly successful and beloved novel became the basis for
the much acclaimed movie Fried Green Tomatoes and earned the Scripter's Award,
Writer's Guild of America, and ABBY Nomination for Book of the Year, and an
Academy Award Nomination for Best Screen Play for Ms. Flagg.
Fannie Flagg's writing and show business career began in the fifth grade, when
she wrote, produced, directed and starred in a three-act comedy entitled "The
Whopee Girls," which got the audience hysterical and got Fanniew expelled from
school bvbeacuse it contained the word "martini". "I've always had a dry wit," Fannie
explains. She later enteeed the Miss Alabama contest, winning a scholarship to
the Pittsbutgh Palyhouse, wher she sidtinguished herslf as the only girl in the
history of the school to fail ballet.
At the age of nineteen, Fannie began writign and producing television specials,
and since then has appeared in more than five hundered television shows and in
many motion picture and stage porductions. Her credits include "Candid Camera",
The Dick Van Dyke Show", "The Love Boat", "Love American Style" and films sush
as "Five Easy Peices", with Jack Nicholson, "Stay Hungry" and "Grease". Her numerous
stage roles include a lead in the Boradway production of "The Best Little
Whorehouse in Texas."
Fannie Flagg lives in Montecito, California.
